Best Practises for Co-Living

Hello, I am Gary John, owner and housemate.  I have lived in community, in Ashrams, Zen Monasteries, arts groups and intentional community.

Intentional living can be a great thing was just enough like-mindedness and basic core integrity.

Having tried a few ways to do this, one thing has come clear. Just being fair about the housework, the cooking, the shopping – just returning messages promptly, showing up with a positive attitude to a monthly meeting and sharing food once or twice a week. These basics, when done with reliability and generosity are enough to generate uplifting feelings, a sense of belonging and joy.

Sharing circles, yoga meditation chanting together, group outings – these are a bonus – as people can find the time. Can we more easily keep a good meditation practice  if basic skills are in place? Even just getting that right can be enough, can be of practice of its own.

That means that we will be sitting down to share some food, and some meditation for those who wish to join. Get together just frequently enough to be familiar with each other and keep a nice feeling.

We don’t need locks on our doors, we  let the sunlight and clean air flow through. We say hi and bye when arriving or leaving. We try to keep it simple.

Relationships and projects can develop between us, of course, but that is entirely optional.

Very happy just to have a home with reliable and gentle people. A great environment for a present and aware lifestyle.
